Sway

The Nomad crew's latest adventure had been a successful one. They'd prevented assassins from killing a princess, kept a war from taking place, and set the seeds of peace in a strife-torn land. If it hadn't been for one tiny little detail, Bryn would have been completely satisfied, and would have been content to just write about the exploits in her journal without constantly dwelling on it.

Unfortunately, there was that pesky little incident that bothered her and doomed her to rehash a certain moment over and over again in her mind.

They had been in the harbor, taking their leave of the royal family. And one of the ways the pretty young princess had shown her gratitude was to kiss Sinbad. It wasn't just a kiss on the cheek, or a light peck on the lips, but one of those downright heated kisses. In front of the crew, the royal family and their entourage, and half the kingdom!

Bryn thought she'd been able to play off her shock well, at least well enough for her friends not to notice just how much Sinbad's kiss with the princess had bothered her. But the truth of the matter was that no matter how much she tried to hide it, every single one of Sinbad's recent flirtations irked her. When they'd first met, his relations with women hadn't bothered her as much, but now that Bryn had gotten to know him...

At first she tried to tell herself that she had no right to be so upset. She didn't have any more claim on his heart than any other woman did. Sinbad didn't know how she felt, after all; if he did, and he didn't reciprocate (although that wasn't a thought Bryn liked to ponder), he wouldn't have been so insensitive as to flirt like that in front of her.

But soon enough Bryn realized that there was no rationalizing her feelings.

Alone in her quarters, she thought about Sinbad, replayed the farewells with the princess again and again. A moment later, she found herself softly humming a tune. A moment after that, she began to sing, adding her thoughts about Sinbad to the melody.

"Don't stray
Don't ever go away
I should be much too smart for this
You know it gets the better of me
Sometimes
When you and I collide
I fall into an ocean of you
Pull me out in time
Don't let me drown
Let me down
I say it's all because of you
And here I go
Losing my control
I'm practicing your name
So I can say it to your face
It doesn't seem right
To look you in the eye
And let all the things you mean to me
Come tumbling out my mouth
Indeed it's time
Tell you why
I say it's infinitely true

"Say you'll stay
Don't come and go
Like you do
Sway my way
Yeah I need to know
All about you

"And there's no cure
And no way to be sure
Why everything's turned inside out
Instilling so much doubt
It makes me so tired
I feel so uninspired
My head is battling with my heart
My logic has been torn apart
And now it all turns sour
Come sweeten every afternoon

"Say you'll stay
Don't come and go
Like you do
Sway my way
Yeah I need to know
All about you
Say you'll stay
Don't come and go
Like you do
Sway my way
Yeah I need to know
All about you

"Its all because of you
Its all because of you

"Now it all turns sour
Come sweeten every afternoon
It's time
Tell you why
I say it's infinitely true

"Say you'll stay
Don't come and go
Like you do
Sway my way
Yeah I need to know
All about you
Say you'll stay
Don't come and go
Like you do
Sway my way
Yeah I need to know
All about you

"Its all because of you
Its all because of you
Its all because of you"

Suddenly a knock sounded on her door, and Bryn stopped singing just before a familiar voice spoke from just outside her door.

"Bryn?" Sinbad asked. "You talking to someone?"

Bryn sighed. It wasn't the time to tell him how she felt after all, she supposed. "No, just singing a song I heard in the marketplace that I liked."

"Oh." He paused for a minute before continuing. "Well, just wanted to wish you a good night."

She smiled faintly at his words. "Good night, Sinbad."
