Tears for you
By Ruby

It was a beautiful day, and the Nomad's crew had decided to take advantage of it. Rongar and Doubar went to a nearby tavern to enjoy themselves, Firouz wanted to visit a friend who lived in town and Bryn decided to go shopping at the local market. Sinbad, having nothing better to do, accepted to join her.

Even by this beautiful day, the market's streets were almost empty, except for an old couple and a few other people. Sinbad thought it was odd, but remained silent about it. They walked in silence, but Sinbad enjoyed to just walking close to her.

Bryn stopped near a shop to examine the small knives on the table. She didn't feel like buying anything, just looking. She just hoped Sinbad wouldn't mind. She knew how much he hated shopping.

With a smile, Sinbad silently observed her as she criticized the knives under her breath. He looked up to see the shop owner looking at her, an angry look in his eyes. Trying to hold back his laugher, he gently led Bryn to another shop.

Bryn looked at Sinbad, quizzically. "I wasn't finish looking at those," she told him, calmly.

Sinbad could only smile. "You weren't interested in those. And you were making the poor merchant angry."

A smile grew on Bryn's smile. "Cheap. I prefer Rongar's."

"Where do you want to go now?" Sinbad then asked her as they stopped in the middle of the street. They saw all there was to say in the market.

Bryn shrugged. "We could join Doubar and Rongar at the tavern. I wouldn't mind a good drink. Shopping gets me thirsty."

"Now that you mention it, a drink sounds good. Let's go."

They started to walk back to the tavern. They both noticed how the town streets were now completely deserted, even in the middle of the day. "I don't like this," Sinbad whispered to Bryn, glancing around.

Bryn nodded. "Something's going to happen. How far are we from the tavern?"

Before Sinbad could answer, five men jumped out of the shadow and surrounded them, wearing black from toes to head. A hood covered their faces and they all held a sword in their hand.

Sinbad sighed. "Can't we have some free time without having to fight?" He asked to himself. He eyed the one who seemed to be their leader. "Can we know why you're attacking us?" As an answer, the men advanced toward them. "Guess not." He then took his sword in his hand.

Bryn imitated him and got ready to fight. "Two against five isn't really fair, don't you boys agree?"

One of them groaned a battle cry and punched Sinbad in the face. Sinbad gave him a kick in his stomach. "I don't think they care about that, Bryn."

Bryn just had the time to block an attack as three of the men faced her, the two others facing Sinbad. Bryn cursed. Not only did they didn't bother to explain why they were fighting, but she had three of them! Glancing at Sinbad, she saw that he didn't seem to have much trouble with his two opponents. She wasn't having so much luck.

They were strong. If it was only one of them, she wouldn't have much trouble, but with three, Bryn didn't know how she would manage to get the upper hand. She could only defend herself. Not once they let her a chance to attack. She rapidly was growing tired and more hits were getting through.

Panting, Bryn barely stood on her two feet. Her three attackers didn't even seem tired. Growling, she held her sword tightly in her hands. She wasn't giving up. Her eyes landed on Sinbad. One of his opponents was laying on the ground, badly beaten up. The other one looked to be in the same state as she was. He wasn't going to hold on much longer. Then, Sinbad would come and help her. She didn't care how weak she would look compare to him. At the moment, she just wanted to lay down and sleep. "Why did you have to be three against me? I'm not the stronger one here," she mumbled, more for herself than for them.

They seemed to be laughing at her.

Sinbad sighed in relief at the last one fell on the ground. Whoever they were, they were good. They almost got him. Thank Allah for his good shape. He glanced at Bryn to see how she was doing and almost gasped in shock. The last three men surrounded her, and her back rested against a wall. There was no way out. She looked pale, tired and they looked ready to finish her off.

His eyes hardened, his fist clenched, he groaned furiously. He ran toward them, faster than he ever thought he could run, and before they could ever react, he had kicked the sword of two of them out of their hand. He jumped in the air and, in a quick and graceful movement, kicked each of them in the face simultaneously. They fell on the ground, moaning in pain, but immediately got up and raised their fists, getting in a fighting stand.

Bryn let escape a sigh of relief as Sinbad arrived to help her. Now she could concentrate on the one standing in front of her. But as she started to fight, she noticed how heavy her sword weighted and how hard her enemy was hitting. A cold sweat covered her body and she had to concentrate to keep her eyes open. What is wrong with me, Bryn wondered. I can’t possibly win. I can’t even direct my sword correctly!. She glanced quickly at Sinbad, to check how he was doing.

That was all her opponent needed. As soon as he noticed her lack of concentration, he moved his sword and before Bryn could react, he hit her in the stomach with a laugh.

Pain filled her, mixed with anger and rage. She suddenly felt her power moving in her, eager to be released. In a gasp, she fell on the ground, but not before her opponent was thrown away by an invisible force and landed far away. Her hands moved to her stomach and pushed hard to try to stop the bleeding. The world around her seemed to fade away, to become dark. Wasn’t it the middle of the day? I’m not going to survive she thought. Her eyes moved, trying to see Sinbad. If she had to die, she wanted to see him one last time. To see his smile, his blue eyes she could so lost herself within. She wanted to have those blue eyes in her memory forever.

Bryn felt like crying, but the tears didn’t come out. She didn’t want to die! She had so much to live for. So much. Life was leaving her, abandoning her. Gasping for air, she didn’t Sinbad rushing to her, didn’t feel his hands on her face, caressing her cheeks, didn't heard the words he said, didn’t feel, didn’t see his tears falling. She was flying. The white light was taking her away, away from her aching body. With a sigh, Bryn closed her eyes. She didn’t hear him scream her name.
